It is quite helpful to understand these terms not just for communication purpose. In transportation it is also very important to understand these definitions to cover your liabilties and Commitments. Below is a constantly growing list of Terms and Definitions that Truckers, Firms, Coordinators, and other industry professionals might throw at you.

Usable Space

Usable Space is defined as the amount of space you shipment uses. So if you have a 80" tall shipment in a 98" trailer, although you are not using the whole 98", the remainder of 18 is not usable space so you are charged for it. Thus your usable height would be 98"
