Van Line Lingo

"Lingo" or "Terms and Industry language" is very important. Every industry works with special terms and abbreviations. It is quite helpful to understand these terms not just for communication purpose. In transportation it is also very important to understand these definitions to cover your liabilties and Commitments. Below is a constantly growing list of Terms and Definitions that Truckers, Firms, Coordinators, and other industry professionals might throw at you.

Linear Space

Every Van Line determines pricing based on Weight or Space and Mileage. Linear Space is a term that defines the total length of inside space your shipment uses inside the trailer. This method of weight calculation usually increases you actual weight by 3-4 times. Van Lines that use this method charge you for all of the space although other shipments will travel over top or in empty space around your shipment. This is the least desired form of weight calculation.
